Crazy Like The Fox

Pierrot Le Fou, first released in 1965, is often called a turning point for director Jean-Luc Godard, a juncture between gangster cool and apocalyptic chic. After attending a vapid party, main character Ferdinand (Jean-Paul Belmondo) decides to abandon his boring life and run off with the babysitter, Marianne (Anna Karina). The "last romantic couple," as Godard called them, cavort across the south of France, narrowly evading the violent gangsters with which Marianne is somehow involved. Ferdinand becomes disenchanted with this lifestyle, too, and wants to settle down on the Riviera, but it's too late -- he's broken his narrative. This remastered print shows off Godard's saturated colors, essential to the perversely joyful feel of the film.
