When Andy Warhol's "Ten Portraits of Jews of the Twentieth Century" was displayed at the Jewish Museum in New York in 1980, it got mixed reviews. The New York Times said "its contribution to art is nil," while Art Forum answered, "The paintings are staggering." Here's your chance to decide for yourself, as the series is shown in its entirety for the first time on the West Coast as part of a major exhibition. The portraits include Sarah Bernhardt, Albert Einstein, Sigmund Freud, the Marx Brothers, and Gertrude Stein. Why did Warhol choose these particular ten figures? "I liked the faces," he once told a reporter.
